Canon's newest camera, the EOS C300 outperforms the previous versions...but is a bit pricier.
Here's a video on some of the new features/upgrades:

who says working for a non-profit can't be fun?
This vid from for World Wildlife Fund (WWF), produced by Leo Burnett and music by Ben Lee, really have some amazing effects integrated into it. The use of models in front of green screens and the prosthetics for the chimp come off as so life-like, you're almost left wondering is this a promo for a new Planet of the Apes series...

A New Monty Python Movie
FROM IGN MOVIES:
A Monty Python reunion film is brewing, and not just that but it'll star member Graham Chapman -- who's been dead since 1989.
The New York Times reports that a 3D animated film of Chapman's "absurdist" memoir A Liar's Autobiography: Volume VI is in the works, with most of the other Python members "performing roles that are cut together with Chapman's voice from a taped reading made shortly before he died."
The new film has 15 different animation companies working on chapters that will run between three and 12 minutes long, each in a different style of cartooning. Eric Idle is the only Python member who hasn't signed on for the film (yet).
The picture will get a theatrical release in the U.K. next year and will debut on TV and online here in the U.S. courtesy of Epix (who?).

and you thought you were a perfectionist...
In a recent article, cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki was asked: Does Malick think about editing when he’s filming ?
"We speak about it almost every time. But most of the ideas about the editing we share on the set don’t make the final cut. We maybe have been shot 600.000 metres (around 370 miles) of film. The first cut was 8 hours long. Terry is working on/preparing a 6 hours long version of the movie. What I’ve seen (of this) is absolutely incredible, it’s wonderful. The longer version will have to/will likely, for the most part, relate to the children part. There were outstanding things, we’ve shot many, many things about Jack’s childhood: his friends, his evolution, his changes, his awareness of the loss of his childhood. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say all of this!" -Emmanuel Lubezki

Weirdest video of the week
Slow motion mode on your camera + model + interesting props = the video you're about to see.
This may be the strangest, yet most interesting art piece I've seen in a while. I'm not sure if it is the gregorian chanting or the ability to see things we might see in a much slower playback - but I find it hard to turn away...

Sony Builds Its Own RED Camera
Mark Wilson from Gizmodo.com — Sony Builds Its Own RED Camera I can't imagine a more exciting time to be an independent filmmaker. This week, even Sony—yes, Sony—showed off a prototype "entry level 35mm" camcorder. In other words, their $100,000+ CineAltas could price compete with RED...or even lower?
Sony has not said much about the prototype—like specific resolution, codec support, dynamic range, etc—but they do promise that the camera will be available before this time next year, and they did promise it would be for "everybody." Keep in mind, however, that this announcement was made at the National Associations of Broadcasters Show (NAB). So "everybody" probably refers to local TV stations more than your starving artist friend/self.
Here's the current landscape: For under a grand, you can shoot beautiful, 24fps 1080p on a Canon t2i. For a bit over $5k, you can upgrade to something like Panasonic's interesting upcoming 4/3ds camcorder (or the cams from Sony/Canon/JVC/etc. Spend somewhere between $20k-40k, score a RED. Spend $60k+, score an ARRI Alexa. This is all before you reach six digits.
Hopefully Sony finds its way into to the mid to lower end of this market and professional, cinematic video continues to get cheaper. And Hollywood's grip on our eyeballs slips as rental houses accept pocket change, or you can trade your car for a studio-quality camera. [Camera Department TV via Engadget]

Is that the imperial march that this robot is doing?
Here's the scary part - Big Dog 1 is controlled by the same processor as the Commodore Vic 20. Big Dog 2 will be equipped with the processor used in the Commodore 64.

Red State U.S.A. Tour - Movie Screening + Kevin Smith Q&A
The Harvey Boys present:
Red State U.S.A. Tour!
Movie Screening + Kevin Smith Q&A
Thu, March 24 - 8PM
Tickets $60
...Presented by: AEG Live & Majestic Live
Ever since Clerks (co-winner of the Filmmakers Trophy at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival), Kevin Smith has been known for his sharp, subversive, comedic writing. He shifts from comedy to horror with Red State and aptly demonstrates that good writing transcends genre.
Red State begins by following three horny high school boys who come across an online ad from an older woman looking for a gang bang. Boys being boys, they hit the road to satisfy their libidinal urges. But what begins as a fantasy takes a dark turn as they come face-to-face with a terrifying “holy” force with a fatal agenda.
Instead of relying on archetypes and predictable formulas, Smith meticulously fashions all-too-real characters, utilizing exceptional performances (notably by Michael Parks) and an intelligent script. His realistic style gives the film an intimate feeling, heightening the terror to biblical proportions. Red State is a shocking new kind of horror film that aggressively confronts higher powers and extreme doctrines with a vengeance.

Is this going to be the new standard for distributing your films?
Surprising news hit Hollywood this week with Clerks director Kevin Smith announcing that he will forgo the normal bidding war for this latest film, Red. Instead, we will be dissing the 'old' way of distribution - selling it to a major studio and will be taking it on a pre-release 13 city road-show tour.
One question that they bring up is "as storytellers, why not instead use our creative abilities that resulted in a film in the first place to also creatively SELL that film directly to our public?"
So, it looks like Silent Bob will be not only be buying advertising for his film including billboards, print media and TV commercials, but he will also be renting out theaters across the country to exhibit his film before a full release. I'm also assuming that he will be in full control of the merchandising at the premieres.
Btw - my favorite quote from Kevin Smith on the matter: "Don't hate the studio; BECOME the studio. Anybody can make a movie; what we aim to prove is anyone can release a movie as well."

Amazing Bike Ninja
Here's something I find very fascinating... taking your urban ninja "Parkour" skills to the next level by using a modified bike, and doing things no one would ever dream of. This guy has several videos many of them simply amazing, along with "how he did that" videos too.
I think aside from simply being amazing on a bike as a stunt performer, he has done a great job creating some beautiful videos that keep viewers intrigued the entire time.
I hope you enjoy!!!

Amateurs MY @$$
Something I love about the limitations to creativity, is that there is none!!!
How do the professionals become professional??? In my opinion, they start out as over achieving amateurs doing things the professionals say is too difficult.
Take for instance these guys:
These guys come out of nowhere, and create one of the most amazing (both in choreography and visual and sound fx) lightsaber fights I've ever seen! Given the fact they didn't have millions of dollars at their disposal, only their own creative drive and hard work, they ended up giving the creators of the actual star wars films a run for their money.
If I am correct about this, I believe once Lucas saw this video, he ended up hiring these guys to work for him, maybe someone can post me to let me know if that's accurate or not???
Anyway, for the fact that these guys are amatuers, this is one hell of an amazing video. It inspires me to work harder than others and to set a standard for myself in an industry that will ignore you if you haven't the talent.
If you're an amateur trying to turn pro... then your worst work better be as good as this if you're ever going to get hired.
